| At the Traverse library. Am internet-less at home until David's first paycheck, when I can get my TetherBerry. I believe I mentioned he got a new job. He is quite happy with it - sounds at ease when I talk to him and isn't worried about anything. That's a nice feeling.
Not much going on. I did meet someone new in Traverse yesterday. I had stopped at the yarn store and she was right behind me. She went up to the owner to ask if the owner knew of anyone selling a spinning wheel. I asked what kind she wanted, because my wheel and I do not get along. It just hogs up floor space. So I brought it up today and she bought it for $125, which was $25 more than I paid 5 years ago. It's a deal for me! As a result my printer now has ink again. Which is good because I need to reprint the cute little Moo-type cards I had made because I put the wrong blog address on them!!!! ack! It was brought to my attention yesterday. After I had handed out some already. gah! Felt like a huge dork. Anyway, I'll make new ones (I made a template in Photoshop, so no biggie) and all will be well...
I hate my mother chicken. She attacks me (not pecks, either, full on attack mode with feet out and kicking at me) when I go to feed her and the chicks. The chicks, as a result, are not seeing me as bringer of good things, which is not a good thing. This chicken keeps it up and she'll be chicken soup for sure...

| On his way home from quitting that morning, David stopped in at a place he had done some work for before, through another company (when he was hauling produce). They snatched him right up, so he's employed again. He goes in Monday for orientation and gets his truck. He'll be heading out Tuesday. This company is highly rated, with new highly maintained trucks. One driver David spoke to had had one break-down in 7 years (while David had 12 in 10 weeks...). He is much happier and relaxed, which is a grand thing. I'll be much more happy and relaxed because he'll be home every week or so, even if it's only for 2 days (he was home 2 weeks this last time - of course, that's 2 weeks unpaid...).
The barn is clad and the roof is 1/3 shingled. The shingles are on the top, protecting the inside. It will definitely be done soon. If the weather would cooperate, we'd be working on it now, but it's raining raining raining. My dogs are getting stir crazy but refuse to actually go outside. gah!
The chicks are very cute. I have a new picture up of them over at the other blog. I updated again already! Yay me!

| David called this morning. He was on his way to pick up some huge $800,000 boat outside of Cleveland. He left last night. While he was home, it was discovered the truck wouldn't start because one of the batteries was dead. He called his company last night (after finally getting the truck started) and they refused to service the truck. That was essentially the last straw for him. He's turning around, cleaning out the truck and asking them what they want him to do with it. He'll find another job asap. But he isn't letting them endanger him with this stupid ill-maintained truck any longer. He's also pretty much done with having to track down his pay every week. He says those are the two things a truck company should never do - mess with drivers' pay and not maintain their equipment. He had already broken a personal rule by going to work for a company with "express" in its name.
Poor dear.
In other news, we're building a barn! Pictures at the other blog. We've already purchased everything. Him being home just means it will actually get finished before the snow comes. Also, new chicks! My missing hen was sitting a nest and now has 11 fuzzy chicks under her. I moved them into the mini coop/chick run yesterday, after they all hatched. They are so very cute.
I think I'm happier than I should be about joblessness...

| TetherBerry trial expired last night while David was doing XBox updates/downloads (download-able content for Fallout3 is so amazingly cool!) but I was already in bed. So this morning he says "no internet, we have to find wifi to fix it." That's not how I remember it, and guess what? I was right. Because I'm obviously on the internet now. Silly ol' man...
Now he can finish what he started, sometime tonight no doubt.
The tv repair guy is coming to replace our power supply today. This makes 4 items affected by iffy power during the summer. Fortunately, the tv is under extended warranty. It only buzzes while it's on, but it's a buzz that annoys the very dickens out of me (David tends not to notice due to "trucker's ear") and so I called since it is under warranty and all (strange purchase - we bought the tv, he offered a deal but only if we got the warranty, so we paid the "list price" but got a 3-year warranty as part of it...and now we're glad we did). He came out last week, same day the dvr got upgraded to HD, but had to order the part.
We like HD well enough, but honestly, sometimes it is distracting. Like on a recent football game and all we could notice was The Grass!!!! OMG the grass!!! It was very strange. NASCAR is pretty fun in HD. And sometimes I just don't want to see all the pores in someone's face, you know? Nature shows are awesome. Mostly we got the fancy tv for videogames, and are glad we did...that experience alone has been worth it!
David plans to be home a few more days. Thursday I have a dentist appointment (root canal - ickyickyicky) followed by art girl meet-up in Traverse. I have actually created things to show off, too, so that's going to be fun. In the last two days I have made 4 sock creatures. The fiber arts group is trading mini ones (made with twee socks) so I started with a regular-size creature to get in the mood and also to have one I will keep, and then I made three mini ones to trade. They have made me happy. David declared me obsessed and shakes his head sadly when I make them dance about. I used my Sock Creatures book to give me ideas and a couple patterns (one I just winged, after making two from patterns). I love the tiny ones. One looks amazingly like Dwight Schrute from The Office due to added hair and button eyes that ended up making it look like it's wearing glasses. I will provide pictures later.
Yesterday we drove down to Grand Rapids to look at trucks. We put in a credit app to see what will happen. If we get it, good. If not, we start budgeting and saving like crazy so we can just purchase one outright (which is the ideal choice, but getting one with a payment moves us along that much faster, so either way is good). We should hear something today. After trucks, we went to a buffet for dinner (Firemountain Grill, which is pretty darn good). Last time we had gone, we got scratch tickets and won a free dinner, so it was time to cash in! Dinner for 2 with sodas was $12 due to free stuff. Yay! Then we came home even though I would really have loved a stop at Michaels for general wandering. However, I truly don't *need* anything, so I didn't even ask. I have supplies a plenty just now, so shall just keep using them.
I shall be very happy when they finish working on the bridge down the road. Stimulus money, I guess. The sounds and vibrations are making me a wee bit crazy, though, and it's been going on for weeks. We're under 1/2 mile away as the crow flies, and so I feel all the vibrations when they are pounding posts with their big machines. I've had to leave the house a couple times as it really got to me. Since David hasn't been around, he was unaware of how much noise it makes (all low background type noise, but noise nonetheless, you know?) and was wanting to know who was running an engine all day. Of course, once he knows what it is, he tunes it out. My tuner is not so selective.
Not much going on really. Just enjoying having him home. Today he plans to glean wood - we took a walk over there the other morning to see what we could get and there's another 1/2 cord or more. It's generally 6 foot or smaller logs that they couldn't use when they were harvesting the trees, so they just left them behind to rot. We are going to use them for fuel. It's been quite cold (daily temps in 40s) so we have the woodstove going. The other morning David got up before me and started a fire. When I got up it was toasty warm in the house. Such a nice feeling.

| Bad news on the tomato front - most of them aren't any good. That wrinkly bit I mentioned turns out to be some strange rot/frostbite or something. So I'm using what I can but most went to the compost heap, where even the chickens aren't touching them so something is definitely up with them. Sad. I may get some from the Farmers Market tomorrow, just so I can have some freshly canned ones (because they're still cheaper than store bought) to use in recipes over the winter.
